Monday 2nd May

Wow, those last four weeks have just flown by. We’ve had Easter in April and I bought Paddington a rather nice Easter egg with lots of little chocolates inside. He was a little disappointed that they weren’t Marmalade flavour, but he was pleased that it was a chocolate orange egg … Almost got it right.

I have been really busy working on my University assignments, and we haven’t done as much walking as I would have liked, so last week, Paddington and I walked into Blackpool whilst the weather was fine and I treated him to his breakfast in his favourite cafe … The Hive. Paddington ordered his favourite Marmalade sandwiches followed by a sticky chocolate bun, whilst I had eggs and avocado on toast with a pot of tea for two.

Today, as it is a Bank Holiday, I decided to take Paddington on a drive to Fleetwood so I could show him around the other end of the coast, and I could pick up some things for my trip from Affinty shopping centre. I called into the Body Shop and then popped into Mountain Warehouse and picked up a blouse and new walking socks.

As we were walking back from seeing the yachts in the harbour, Paddington pointed to a pop up shop that we hadn’t seen before and asked, “Look, There’s a T-shirt with a ship on it. Can we go inside?”

I followed Paddington into the shop called ‘Northern Tide’. Paddington wasted no time introducing himself and struck up a conversation with the owner, Scottie; who told us he had designed all the clothing himself and explained about the ship on the T-shirt, which was in fact a fishing trawler, very much like the one Paddington saw on the packet of the ‘Fishermen’s Friends throat sweets. Scottie told Paddington that the trawler is a symbol of Fleetwood’s cultural heritage. Paddington liked it so much, he picked a t-shirt for him and a sweat shirt for me. He said I would need a warm top for travelling to Peru. I must say, for a bear, he does have very good taste.

Hello … it’s Paddington here. I’ve just chosen a lovely warm sweat shirt for Elaine … she’s going to need it in Peru. I waved goodbye to Scottie, and we made our way back to the car. I noticed that the tide was out and the beach looked easy for me to get to … so I suggested a walk … Well, Elaine had promised me a walk on the beach. It was quite warm so I left my hat and coat in the car and put on some Wellington boots, then Elaine and I went for a walk and a paddle on the shore line.

I do like this stretch of beach, it’s very easy for me to get to and it’s so quiet. Lovely. We walked along to the Sea cadet base and came off the beach and walked back along the promenade walk past the boating lakes, and she tells me that children go there in summer catching swimming crabs … I thought she was joking, but, she is taking me ‘crabbing’ when we come back from Peru. All we need is a bucket, crab line and bacon bits … Hmm not too sure about that, but I’ll go along with it.

I think we are going home now, it must be Marmalade sandwich, and cup of tea time as I’m getting a little peckish, and I know Elaine has some work to do.

Guess what … Six weeks and Five days to go until we fly… I can’t wait …
